Ladies and Gentlemen,
Now that the "Christian Education Resolution" has been submitted for the June SBC Annual Meeting, the question is "What next?" I would suggest the following:
(1) There are many people sympathetic to the Exodus Mandate message with e-mail lists. I suggest that we get copies of the resolution to those who maintain the lists asking them to circulate the resolution with the message that if you belong to an SBC church, you need to do what you can to gather support for it between now and the Annual Meeting. If
you don't belong to an SBC church, you should feel free to adapt it to your denomination and use it as appropriate.
(2) We need to circulate copies to sympathetic SBC leaders and ask for their support. We should be sure to remember to include leaders in the state conventions and local associations.
(3) We need to distribute copies to the Christian media - print, radio, and television - via an Exodus Mandate news release. I believe Dr. James Dobson and others would find it newsworthy that this resolution has been submitted for the SBC Annual Meeting. Perhaps
YOU might be able to pass it along to a contact at Focus on the Family.
(4) Copies of the resolution should be sent to homeschool organizations (with encouragement to circulate the resolution) and to sympathetic Christian school associations.
These are probably only a few of the productive things that might be done by e-mail or by a few well-placed telephone calls. If we all do a little and encourage others to do the same, we should be able to accomplish a lot.
God's peace be with you,
Bruce N. Shortt

Dear Friends,
The Pinckney-Shortt resolution is first considered by the ten members of Resolution Committee. The committee can edit or submit the resolution intact to the Messengers who will attend the Annual Meeting. If they do so, a straight up or down vote with a simple majority passes the resolutionan event that will make national news.
However, if the Resolution Committee doesn't pass the resolution, then it can still be considered by the Messengers, if it's introduced as a motion by a Messenger from the floor of the Meeting AND it receives 2/3rds of the vote. That's a high hurdlejust to get it on the agenda.
So you can see how important the Resolution Committee is. If you are Southern Baptist, and ONLY if you are Southern Baptist, feel welcome to contact the members of the committee. Please be polite and as non-intrusive as possible. Keep your message brief.
You can read a letter one supporter sent here: Sample Letter.
If you are not a Southern Baptist, please respect the fact that Baptists are very independent and are not likely to respond well to being told by "outsiders" what they should or should not do, and dont send a message to the individuals on this committee.
A partial list of contacts is at the bottom of this page.
