Analysis

Sometimes, it's best to let scripture speak for itself. Here's what the passage says in context...

3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh,
4 for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses.
5 We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ,
6 and we are ready to punish all disobedience, whenever your obedience is complete.

Are we really supposed to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ?

For example,

  • Are our mathematic thoughts to be taken captive to the obedience of Christ?
  • Are our home economics, typing, and mechanical drawing thoughts to be taken captive to the obedience of Christ?
  • When a child is reading a school assignment or doing science homework, are they still supposed to bring every thought captive to the obedience of Christ?

If you answered, "Yes", to these questions, then you must consider the next question:

Is the public school capable of supporting and training my child to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ?

The sponsors of this resolution believe that the answer to that question is a resounding, "No."

Perhaps you believe that question is irrelevant that public schools are only responsible for job training. Then please, ask yourself some important questions,

  • Would you let your child watch a pornographic movie? Some of these immoral films are only an hour long. If the godless behavior displayed in these videos is harmful, how harmful is 12 years of godless education?
  • Would you let your child attend a profanity-laced, crotch-grabbing, fornication-promoting rap concert? Some of these concerts are only a couple hours long. If the godless values promoted at these concerts is harmful, how harmful is 5 days a week of godless education?

You wouldnt want your children witnessing immoral entertainment because you understand the moral danger of exposure. That which doesnt aid the child in bringing every thought captive evolution, amoral sex-ed and condom distribution, secular humanism, and worse, nihilism all work against the notion that we are to bring every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.
