Whereas, Jesus said, "He who is not with Me is against Me, and
he who does not gather with Me scatters" (Lk. 11:23), the government
school system that claims to be "neutral" with regard to Christ
is actually anti-Christian, so that children taught in the
government schools are receiving an anti-Christian education, and
Analysis
In Luke 11, Jesus is accused by the Pharisees of casting out demons by
Beelzebub, "the ruler of demons."
In modern language, here is Jesus' reply: "You're either for me, or you're against me."
Here's what the Zondervan Study Bible has to say about this verse:
The one who does not intentionally support Jesus opposes him,
making neutrality impossible...
Perhaps you believe this rhetoric is a little too strong. We
understand how you feel. It would be nice if there were some
happy compromise available. But we firmly believe Baptist
children are at risk and that a prophetic call is rarely popular.
In fact, prophets have often been without honor in their own country and worse, some have been stoned.
Our opponents have said that we're...
- Retreating behind the four walls of the Church and ignoring human society.
- Ignoring the Great Commission and are waiting for the world to come to us.
But they are totally wrong. In fact, it's hard to imagine how they could have so mis-characterized our position and so missed our point.
It is precisely our support for the Great Commissionto Go and preach the Gospelthat motivates our filing of this resolution. The Christian worldview is losing ground daily, and despite some bright spots here and there, the country is in greater danger today, of collapse due to moral decay, than it ever was.
Let's be practical here. A Godly generation must be raised up and the most effective way to do that is to use their education to prepare them for what they will face to train them up in the way they should go, so that when they are grown they will not depart from the faith, but rather serve as effective Salt and Light.
To be effective in raising this Godly generation our denomination will need to build a missionary fever.
- Vast amounts of monies will need to be committed to this new mission field.
- Vast numbers of teachers and workers will need to be recruited to join the faithful already serving.
- Many churches will have to re-commit themselves, and others will need to make brand new commitments to Christian education.
- Support systems, scholarships, and tools will need to be provided to
parentsespecially for those who can't afford Christian educationso
they can insure that their children receive a Christian education.
In fact, we wonder how many single parents would choose a Christian school education, but can't afford either the time to Homeschool or the money for tuition to a Christian school?
Is this not potentially one of the greatest mission fields of all?
That is why we believe you are either for the Christand truly for the Great Commissionor you are opposed to Himand His call.
Will we turn our back on this mission field or will we embrace this God-given opportunity with a zeal that will change our nation?
